Welcome to Rosie Jo! This is it, the first post. The first is always the hardest right? We’ll go with that. I am so excited to finally launch this website and be able to share the things that I love (or don’t love) with others.
Anyways, on to the good stuff. This is the first but definitely not the last time my love for Kiehl’s skin care will come up on this blog.
Beginning as an old-world apothecary over 165 years ago, Kiehl’s has become a household name in skin care formulating their products with naturally derived ingredients. Kiehl’s products are a staple in my skin care regimen and having tried most of the line, I present to you the best of the best: Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer, Ultra Facial Moisturizer and Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque.
This product is gold. Kiehl’s claims that this product improves overall skin quality, dryness and blotchiness. Formulated with Rosa Gallica Botanical Extract, it is supposed to minimize the skin’s visible response to stress and contains mannose, a barrier protecting rare sugar, which shields and helps maintain skin to promote recovery.
Those are the claims and I can honestly say it does that and more. I have Keratosis Pilaris which has given me very rosy cheeks since I was a child. My rosiness has improved substantially and that is definitely in part to this product. It has also noticeably improved my skin’s texture on my cheeks. If you’re looking for a deep moisturizer, this isn’t the product for you as it is more of light moisturizer but it hydrates well and lives up to every claim it makes. I use it as my daily moisturizer, AM and PM. It is expensive, at $49 (CAD) per bottle but a little goes a long way and one bottle lasts me about 5 months using it twice a day.
This is your classic daily facial moisturizer. It’s formulated for all skin types and hydrates without feeling greasy or sitting on top of the skin. I typically layer this on top of my Skin Rescuer when I feel like my skin needs a little extra hydration.
This product contains Squalane, which is a botanical lipid that helps restore the skin’s natural moisture balance and also improves skin texture. The smallest bottle of this moisturizer starts at $27 (CAD) and again, a little of this goes a long way. There is also a version of the Ultra Facial Moisturizer available with SPF 30 for those who like a “one and done” skin care product. Legendary MUA Mario Dedivanovic even uses this moisturizer on his clients so you know it’s good.
I love a good hydrating mask. I was living off of Fresh Rose Mask deluxe samples and loved that product but at $75 a tub, I had to search for a more affordable option. Enter, the Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque. I got a sample of this and decided to try it, after one use I purchased the full size because it is fantastic. This gel mask is formulated with Calendula flower petals and Aloe Vera which cool, soothe and hydrate the skin.
I like to use this after using any type of clay or purifying mask, as I find those tend to dry my skin out and this mask restores my skin’s natural balance and gives it a nice glow. This mask is also perfect after spending a day in the sun to hydrate, restore and repair. A 28mL jar of this mask is $25, which lasts me about 3 months. A 100mL jar is $55, which will basically last forever.
Kiehl’s is considered more of a luxury skin care brand as the prices are definitely higher than the drugstore range, but in my opinion, these three products are 100% worth the money.
